Frank Lampard Fancies Mohamed Salah Beating Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo To Ballon d’Or

Chelsea favourite Frank Lampard believes Mohamed Salah can end the dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo with respect to the Ballon d’Or title. One of the pair has won the prestigious accolade over the past 10 years but Lampard feels this trend could come to an end, should Salah guide Liverpool to Champions League success this term.

“Liverpool have attacking talent to worry Roma, most notably Mohamed Salah,” he wrote in his Evening Standard column. “After being named PFA Player of the Year, he can now put himself in the bracket for the Ballon d’Or too. It will be hard for him to break the group that is Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It will take a lot to do that. But if he takes Liverpool to the Champions League title, that could well do it.”

Salah has been simply outstanding on his second coming to the Premier League and his tally of 31 goals in 33 league games has witnessed him bag the PFA Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, the Egyptian has equally been effective in the Champions League where he has amassed eight goals and he has the opportunity of extending his tally against ex-club Roma in midweek.

The Giallorossi unquestionably produced the shock of the competition as they ousted Barcelona in the quarter-final stage but they now have a stiffer task on their hands against a Reds attack which has tended to score for run this campaign. The front trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Salah have scored over 80 goals between them this term and Roma will have to work their socks off in order to make a surprise entry into the final.

In most likeliness, Liverpool will be fancied to reach the Champions League final in Kyiv next month and they could find themselves facing Real Madrid, who are being backed to trump Bayern Munich in the other semi-final. Los Blancos are aiming to create history by becoming the first side to claim three consecutive Champions League crowns.
