Manuel Pellegrini insists that Manchester City can’t win trophies every single year

This season hasn’t been a memorable or impressive one for Manuel Pellegrini and Manchester City as they were knocked out of Champions League in the Round of 16 after losing against Barcelona and couldn’t keep up with Chelsea in the race of the Premier League.

Chelsea has already been crowned as the champions of England after collecting a total of 83 points, Manchester City was far behind as they could only gather 70 points in the same amount of matches.

Manchester City has spent over £350 million in signing their players since 2010.

2 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 1 Football League Cup and 1 FA Community Shield are all of the pieces of silverware that Manchester City has sealed after having spent that astronomically high amount of money a few years ago.

Manuel Pellegrini announced that even with all of the cash and everything that has been done it’s impossible for them to win major titles in every single season and especially in this year where other clubs have shown an increase in their spending power and who have also spent a substantially high fee in signing players.

The season is reaching its end in only a few more weeks and Manchester City will be finishing it empty-handed after failing to defend their pieces of silverware that they attempted to keep hold throughout the entire season but just couldn’t do it.

Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini said: "I appreciate that you think the only team that must win the title is City. We cannot win trophies every year. It is impossible especially in this year. This year Arsenal spent more money, Chelsea spent more money, United spent more money, Liverpool more money and have very strong squads. You have another five teams that are as strong as your team."

After having experienced such an underwhelming season, the pressure is starting to build around Manuel Pellegrini as rumors are beginning to link the player with a move away from the Etihad Stadium. This might be the last season of Manuel Pellegrini as the coach of Manchester City.
