SIlva Claims 'The Only Way To Stop Messi Is To Shoot Him'

Former AC Milan defender Thiago Silva has claimed that the only way Argentine superstar Lionel Messi can be stopped at the World Cup is by the use of a gun. Messi heads into the World Cup as of the best players in the world. Even though his form of late has not been great, he is widely seen as the man who can almost individually win the title for Argentina. Silva has come up against Messi a few times in the club career. Widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, Silva himself has struggled against Messi.

Argentina are regarded as one of favourites for the World Cup 2014 title. Even though they are struggling with a poor defence, they are expected to score their way into the tournament finals. Messi will be at the heart of it and Silva reckons that it would take a lot of effort to stop the Barcelona man if he is on song. The former AC Milan defender has also revealed his wish to face Messi in the finals of the World Cup. Brazil and Argentina have previously met in the final of the Copa America in 2007. Brazil came out on top with Messi considered as a young and upcoming star back then.

“The only way of stopping Messi is with a gun. He is the attacker who keeps you awake when you play against him. I faced him three times with AC Milan and once with PSG. When the game goes to one side of the field, he is alone on the other. Despite recent injuries, he is a guy who will work very hard at the World Cup. Argentina would be a classic. Or Germany, for a rematch of the 2002 World Cup final. Or Spain, since the Spanish are also calling for a rematch after we beat them in the Confederations Cup final last year,” said Silva.
